Into the Woods

The classic tales of Cinderella, Rapunzel, Little Red Riding Hood and Jack and the Beanstalk fracture and intertwine as a baker and his wife set off the lift a witch’s curse. Into the Woods returns to the darker, Grimm origins of these stories and imagines what might happen to these tales once they have all had their temporary ‘happily ever after’.

Told, in SMTC’s exciting new interpretation, by a group of refugees in a temporary camp, the production asks what people are willing to do or give up to get what they want; and what happens when they get it. It asks the audience whether these cautionary ‘fairy tales’ of old are really so far fetched… Are there giants in the sky? Are there wolves in the shadows? Are you really brave enough to step into the woods?
